Crosspost from Portfolio Blog: Digital Color: Stormchaser and Witchka

For some of my posts, I'll be crossposting from my portfolio blog. Here's the first look at some of what I do!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've long been a fan of an independent musician called S J Tucker. A wonderful singer and songwriter, her music touches on fantastic stories, mythology, and a kind of magic that never ceases to inspire me. It's become a tradition for me to sit during her concerts and draw, sketch after sketch drawn from the music Sooj and her companions are performing, and then present the sketches to them as a gift and thank you for the wonderful work that they do.
Sometimes the thumbnails I create during the concerts stick with me and beg to be worked into larger pieces. Stormchaser and Witchka are two such pieces. Stormchaser is a tale of Dorothy eager to return to Oz and braving the dangers of chasing down storms to get there; Witchka is a fun little story of someone who lovingly watches a young woman discovering herself.
Stormchaser was created in Photoshop; Witchka was drawn in pencils, scanned, and colored in Photoshop.
I've provided links to the songs that inspired the paintings. Witchka can be found on Sooj's Mischief album; Stormchaser has not officially been released but it has been performed at several of her live concerts. These songs are owned by S J Tucker and are posted here as unofficial companion pieces to my own artwork.
